MFA Thesis

Perceptions of culture are constantly shifting as we redefine ourselves as societies. Subcultural groups within different societies often emerge as manifestations of people's search for identity. By observing traditional Mexican visual language and integrating it with approaches being used by subcultural groups within contemporary Mexican culture, I explored how far this visual language can be transformed before it loses its cultural connotations. The results of these transformations were mixed back into the contemporary visual world, to observe how they impact traditional visual language.
